A large arched roof with a span of 15.6 metres was designed for a VIP area at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
Based on the proven MILOS MR1 roof system, the project required a special solution to achieve the desired dimensions and distinctive curved shape.
What was addressed?
The customer, GETEC Group, required a large roof structure for a VIP area at the Red Bull Ring.
The key requirement was a 15.6 m clear span, providing an open and unobstructed space underneath the roof. At the same time, the arched design had to create an attractive appearance suitable for a premium hospitality environment.
An important part of the project was also the finish – the entire structure had to be supplied in a distinctive gold colour.
MILOS team
The MILOS team evaluated the required dimensions and geometry and developed a way to adapt the existing MR1 roof system to the specific requirements of the project.
The goal was to use proven MILOS components wherever possible while developing a special solution for the unique roof geometry.
What were the challenges?
15.6 m arched span – Creating such a wide arch required a connection solution that could accommodate the specific roof geometry while maintaining the structural concept of the MR1 system. Rather than developing a completely new roof system, the challenge was to adapt the existing modular solution to achieve the required dimensions and shape.
Ballast requirements – The large roof structure also required a suitable ballast solution to provide the necessary stability. Due to the project requirements and on-site conditions, concrete ballast blocks had to be incorporated into the final design.
The solution
The final solution was based on the MILOS MR1 arched roof system, complemented by a specially designed Vario corner.
The Vario corner provided the required connection between the supporting structure and the large roof arch, making it possible to achieve the 15.6 m clear span while keeping the structure based on the proven MR1 concept.
For the required stability, the structure was secured using a total of 10 concrete ballast blocks.
The result was a spacious arched roof with an open area underneath, combining standard MILOS technology with a custom-developed component to meet the specific requirements of the VIP area at the Red Bull Ring.
