Cable management in tunnel

Carlsberg brewery HQ special project

What initially seemed like a relatively simple and standard task turned into a unique project that required the MILOS team to develop solutions and processes they had never used before.

What was addressed?

Carlsberg was looking for a solution for the unique tunnel entrance leading to its headquarters. The cables and lighting in the tunnel needed to be integrated into a specially designed structure that would complement the architecture of the entrance

An important part of the project was also the finish – the entire structure had to be supplied in a distinctive gold colour.

MILOS team

The project was led by MILOS Brand Manager Marek Žubor, who worked closely with the production and purchasing departments. Throughout the project, the team faced several technical and manufacturing challenges that required completely new solutions.

What were the challenges?

Two main challenges had to be addressed.

Custom truss design – The cables had to run through a specially designed Trio truss system. As there was no standard MILOS product suitable for the application, the structure had to be developed specifically for the project. This required dedicated structural calculations as well as new production processes for the custom-made Trio truss.

Special gold finish – An even greater challenge was the requested gold colour, chosen to match the rest of the tunnel entrance and reflect the colour associated with Carlsberg beer. In addition to achieving the right appearance, the finish had to remain durable for decades.

The solution

For the new Trio truss design, the MILOS project team collaborated with the customer to fully understand the requirements and future use of the structure. The system was designed to support the lighting while also integrating and concealing the required cabling. At the same time, the design had to provide easy access to the cables for maintenance, servicing and replacement.

Finding the right solution for the gold anodized finish presented a specific technical challenge. As the anodizing process requires the entire structure to be immersed in a chemical bath, the truss had to be designed without enclosed internal spaces where chemicals could remain trapped and later leak out, potentially damaging or discolouring the final finish.

To solve this, the standard hollow tubes used for the truss bracing were replaced with solid aluminium rods. With no internal cavities, the complete structure could be safely anodized while achieving the required appearance and long-term durability.

Customer satisfaction

The customer particularly appreciated the flexibility of the MILOS team and its ability to respond to changes throughout the project.

MILOS was also recognized for actively searching for solutions to the unusual requirements instead of simply concluding that they could not be achieved. This approach helped turn a challenging custom assignment into a successful solution for the Carlsberg headquarters.
